Championship Opener – Saturday, 9 August | St. Andrew’s | 7:00am

🔴 Ipswich Town: Opposition Focus

Birmingham kick off the new Championship season under the lights at St. Andrew’s, with newly relegated Ipswich Town the visitors.

Ipswich return to the second tier after a difficult Premier League campaign, finishing 19th and managing just 22 points. The summer has seen key departures, most notably their top scorer from last season, Liam Delap, who completed a £30 million move to Chelsea in June.

Defensive issues remain a concern. Ipswich are without a clean sheet in their last 20 competitive matches, and they ended last season on a run of six games without a win. That said, there are still threats in their side, with left-back Leif Davis expected to play a key role. Davis was among the standout full-backs in the Championship during their promotion season and will be one to watch.

📊 Recent Form:

  • Last 6 games: 0 wins, 1 draw, 5 losses
  • Goals conceded: 15
  • No clean sheets in last 20 games

📌 Last Meeting at St. Andrew’s:

  • February 2024: Ipswich won 3–1

👀 Key Point:
Ipswich are still finding their feet after relegation and a reshuffled squad. Their recent form and leaky defence suggest they're vulnerable, but they’ve shown before they can be dangerous on the break.

In the words of Steve Bruce, "Now 't real ball comes out"

I feel we should forget Ipswich's previous form; this is a new season and new division for both teams, I am expecting a close tussle but with momentum on our side I'm backing Blues to win 1-0 or 2-1.

Team selection...

Allsop
Osahi-Samuel, Neumann, Klarer, Cochrane
Iwata, Paik, Doyle
Gray, Stansfield, Anderson

I agree, I think both teams have something to prove coming into new leagues. Should make for an interesting match up. Might go for 2-1 blues.

Interesting, you picked Osayi-Samuel over Laird.

That pick was based on CD's selection for Forest game, I don't think there is much more than a tissue paper between the two of them

We should definitely be 1-0 up at half time. What a fantastic first half but the standard of refereeing is being well managed by Ipswich

Join us for our meeting over teams as we discuss the 2nd half.
