Close to the anniversary of the passing of the Club’s greatest-ever player, we take time to remember a true legend who made 330 appearances in royal blue, scored 113 goals, and later returned as Manager between 1996 and 2001.
Last summer’s pre-season fixture against Rangers was the first Trevor Francis Memorial Game. This year, the Club will once again honour the legendary striker with a match against another of his former teams.
The occasion will be a celebration of Trevor’s remarkable life and career, from a teenage sensation to a two-time European Cup winner and international star. It is an opportunity to reflect on the immense contributions he made to both clubs and to the game as a whole.
Francis held the records as Blues’ youngest player and youngest goalscorer for nearly 50 years. In 1979, he became English football’s first £1 million player when he left St Andrew’s for reigning champions Nottingham Forest. He immediately justified his price tag by scoring the winning goal in that year’s European Cup Final against Malmö in Munich.
Before kick-off, we will proudly unveil the long-awaited statue of Trevor Francis outside The Kop. It will stand as a permanent tribute to a true legend of the Club.
It promises to be a memorable day as we come together to celebrate the life and legacy of a footballing icon.
